The Chanel Métiers D’Art fashion show comes to Manchester

Manchester is buzzing with the news that the world’s biggest fashion brand, Chanel, is hosting this year’s Métiers D’Art fashion show in the iconic Northern Quarter.

Seemingly chosen for its rich history within the textile industry, Manchester – formerly known as Cottonopolis – will put on one of the most prestigious fashion events in UK history.

While Manchester is no stranger to the fashion industry, the arrival of the Chanel show cements its position as a major player in the global fashion scene. Previously hosted in fashion capitals including Paris and Shanghai, the event is testament to Manchester’s cultural revival in recent years.

In 2023, Manchester saw the announcement of Soho House, The W Hotel, and Sexy Fish among other prestigious venues. Attracting visitors and high networth residents, the arrival of the Chanel show is the latest addition to Manchester’s emerging luxury scene.

Why the Northern Quarter?

Once ‘up and coming’, the Northern Quarter is officially here and now. Voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by TimeOut, the trendy ‘NQ’ as it is known, is praised for its urban charm and world-class street art against the backdrop of Victorian architecture. With its amazing music, art, and food scene, the Northern Quarter has been compared to famous hipster hangouts, Shoreditch, Brooklyn and West Hollywood.

So what’s the venue? Previously, the Métiers D’Art show has taken place in settings like Shanghai’s Huangpu river and a Parisian palace. This year, the show’s backdrop will reflect working-class Northern Britain in the world’s first industrial city. Perhaps the most iconic street in the Northern Quarter, Thomas Street is an appropriate choice for an event of such creative esteem, renowned for its vibrant colours, street art, independent boutiques, and edgy food & drink hotspots. Over the last week, the show’s huge outdoor construct is taking shape, leaving many wondering what its final form will be. Rather than choosing a historical indoor venue as many suspected, the show will take place on the street itself.

With Manchester’s recent rise in international fame, it is exciting to imagine what the future holds for the Capital of the North and its vibrant Northern Quarter. The Chanel show is just the beginning of a new era for the city and is yet another sign of its limitless potential.

One Port Street, Northern Quarter

Select Property’s latest development, One Port Street, is a luxury residence in the heart of the Northern Quarter – now 85% sold out. The first residential development of its kind, One Port Street pushes the boundaries of resident experience like never before to redefine city living.

The development has already won three industry awards including the International Property Awards, ahead of its completion in Q4 2025. Set to transform the Northern Quarter’s luxury residential offering, rental demand will be high.
