EY (Ernst & Young), one of ‘The Big Four’ consulting firms, has announced their relocation to a new office based in Birmingham city centre.

Investing in the future

The new office is centrally located at Three Chamberlain Square, and is part of Paradise Birmingham, “the most important development in a generation.” Paradise Birmingham is an incredible new purpose-built business district, with a £1.2billion investment that is bringing 10,000 new jobs to the city.

EY currently employs more than 1,200 people in Birmingham including 55 partners. Throughout 2024, the large consulting firm also welcomed over 50 young professionals including graduates, interns and students into its Birmingham office. Many large companies such as EY encourage young talent, contributing to Birmingham boasting a staggering graduate retention rate of 49%.

A global business hub

Alongside EY, Birmingham is a global hub for many international businesses, including PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, HSBC, Goldman Sachs and the BBC. Many of these major companies have chosen Birmingham as the city to invest in, with the BBC recently announcing a £282M investment into a new state-of-the-art facility.

The thriving job market supported by these top companies is also leading to the population increase in the city, forecast a 7.8% growth over 20 years. Birmingham is one of the top UK cities for professionals, with an abundance of career opportunities attracting the country’s highest earners.

A city under transformation

With major regeneration projects throughout the city, Birmingham is a city that is advancing at pace. The construction of HS2, a revolutionary bullet train connecting the city to London in just 52 minutes, is attracting a host of professionals to Birmingham as they look for a more affordable lifestyle outside of the famously overpriced capital.

Both residents and investors are considering opportunities outside of London. Birmingham is leading growth forecasts, with JLL predicting Birmingham to see sales and rental growth of circa 20% over the next five years, higher than any other UK city.

The home for professionals

With an ever-growing and thriving job market, Birmingham attracts high-earning, ambitious professionals.

The range of top companies in the city supports the local economy, with most of these businesses based in iconic central locations, such as Centenary Square, home to Europe’s largest library.
